V1 Doodlebug

Combe

12th July 1944

On 12th July 1944 a V1 flying bomb exploded in a 100 acre field about half-a-mile south-west of Combe Gibbet. Despite the bomb making a crater that was 30 feet across and about 10 feet deep the site was well away from habitation and there were no human casualties. However, the blast broke several windows and caused other damage at Manor House, Wright's farm and Fir Tree cottages.
